Bengaluru: BBMP plans free Wi-Fi in 2,000 locations

Hoping to provide seamless internet connectivity in public places across the city, BBMP has planned to introduce 4,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots in 2,000 locations. In order to implement the long-pending project - initiated in 2014 - the civic agency has collaborated with city-based internet provider Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), as announced by deputy chief minister CN Ashwath Narayan at the recent Bengaluru Tech Summit. The minister had said, "The project will be implemented by ACT across Bengaluru at their own cost.

TRAI telecom data shows rise in broadband subscribers in Dec 2019

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the telecom subscription data as on December 2019. Top five service providers constituted 98.98% market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of December 2019. These service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (370.87 million), Bharti Airtel (140.40 million), Vodafone Idea (118.45 million), BSNL (23.96 million) and Atria Convergence (1.52 million).

India ranks 128 in mobile broadband speed, 66 in fixed broadband speed, 66 in fixed broadband: Report

US-based Ookla has released its January Global Speedtest Index. As per the Speedtest Index, India’s performance for fixed broadband since December 2019 improved with the country moving up a few rank, there was no movement when it came to mobile broadband ranking. India ranked at 128 position for mobile broadband speed and at 66 position for fixed broadband speed in January 2020, globally. A previous report by Ookla said that ACT Fibernet topped the charts in fixed broadband download speeds in India with speeds between 45.31 and 47.74 Mbps.

Street no. 9, Kamakshipuram, Ramanthapur, has become a spot for drug peddlers and notorious gangs. Every now and then they harass people from the locality. A few months ago, we approached the Uppal police and submitted a written complaint. At Endowment colony, there are 21 CCTV cameras and all are working. Srinivaspuram colony has no community cameras but Venkat Reddy Nagar has six government L&T cameras (non-live) and PS Colony has three of the same. Efforts are on to give ACT Fibernet connectivity to all non-live cameras.

Airtel ends free Netflix offer as part of its Xstreme Fiber broadband

Airtel is no longer offering free Netflix subscription as part of its Xstream Fiber broadband plans and a similar offer for its postpaid mobile users has also ended. ACT Corp is still offering Netflix to subscribers of its broadband plans. ACT Fibernet had announced last year that existing and new customers, who opted for six-month plans and 12-month plans would be able to seamlessly pay for their monthly Netflix subscription through their ACT Fibernet bill.
