An ACT of strategy: how a Bengaluru-based ISP is protecting its turf in the Jio-Airtel era

Jio Fiber has the billion-dollar financial muscle with Reliance Industries backing it while Airtel Xstream has the support of Bharti Enterprises. In comparison, ACT Fibernet is a tiny player, and it may look like a lost battle even before it’s fought. But then, as Malcolm Gladwell puts it in his book, titled David, and Goliath: Underdogs, Mists, and the Art of Battling Giants - “Giants are not what we think they are. The same qualities that appear to give them strength are often the sources of great weakness”. Bala Malladi, CEO of ACT Fibernet, a small player in terms of geographical spread in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband, is well aware of the limitations of his company and the intimidating size of its rivals. That realisation has been the biggest strength for ACT, which claims to be the fourth largest player in India’s wireline broadband market serving 1.8 million households, as it continues to protect its turf from the Goliaths. But how exactly is the Bengaluru-based company managing to do it? Counterintuitive choices: scale vs. quality Compared to Airtel, which covers 219 Indian cities (as of December 2020), ACT’s presence is negligible at 19. Though Jio Fiber hasn’t officially declared its current geographical presence, the company has an ambitious plan to cover more than 1,600 cities across India.

ACT Fibernet Has the Cheapest 300 Mbps Plan Compared to JioFiber and Airtel Broadband

ACT Fibernet recently revised its broadband plans across multiple cities and started offering unlimited data to match JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber (Airtel Broadband). After the revision, ACT Fibernet has the cheapest 300 Mbps broadband plan compared to the top private Internet Service Providers (ISP). ACT Fibernet has been in the industry for a while and it is currently the fourth largest wireline service provider in India after the likes of BSNL, Airtel and JioFiber. In Hyderabad, ACT Fibernet’s A-Max 1325 broadband plan offers 300 Mbps speeds at just Rs 1,325 per month. In contrast, Airtel Xstream Fiber and JioFiber are offering a 300 Mbps plan at Rs 1,499. BSNL’s 300 Mbps plan also costs the same Rs 1,499 per month. Continue reading to know the 300 Mbps broadband plans from ACT Fibernet, JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber in detail.

ACT Fibernet upgrades speed, data limits of select broadband plans

ACT Fibernet on Thursday said it had upgraded speed and data limits for its existing fixed term broadband users in Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu. In Hyderabad, ACT Fibernet is now offering unlimited data with A-Max 1325 and Incredible 1999 plans. The two schemes offer 300Mbps and 400Mbps speeds, respectively. The company has upgraded the data from 300GB FUP to 500GB FUP on the A-Max 500 plan. The A-Max 700 plan now offers 1000GB FUP data, up from 500GB FUP. This plan also has a revised speed from 50Mbps to 75Mbps. The A-Max 1075 plan now offers 150Mbps speed, up from 125Mbps speed.
